How is the price of each workshop determined?
The prices are based upon the cost of training for the instructor in the Women Repair Zone Way and Adult Learning Theory, payment for teaching the workshop, space rental, insurance, and materials costs.
What types of savings can be achieved by taking a workshop?
The savings depend upon the specific workshop. For example, the cost to hire a contractor to properly paint kitchen cabinets ranges from $1,000 - $1,500. Even with the cost of materials and the workshop fee, Women Repair Zone™ customers can save hundreds of dollars by doing the work themselves. Another example is tiling a backsplash. It costs between $400-$600 to tile a 16 square foot area. The cost to do it yourself including the workshop fee, materials and renting a tile saw is considerably less expensive.
Why not just watch an online video?
The interactive and hands-on nature of Women Repair Zone™ workshops leads to more effective learning than watching a video. At our workshops, the instructor guides all of the participants each step of the way and answers all questions. In addition, the instructors share their in-depth knowledge and shortcuts that they use to save money and do the project more quickly.
All Women Repair Zone™ instructors are trained in how to teach adults so that their instructions are clear and easily executed by you. The quality of online instructional videos is not reliable.
What if I purchased a ticket and I am unable to attend?
We prefer at least a 36-hour notice if a participant is unable to attend. However, we do understand that this is not always possible. Participants who are unable to attend can receive credit equal to the amount of the workshop they were going to attend, to be used within 6 months. Please let us know if you cannot attend a workshop by contacting Bea at 423-240-4420 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Why only women?
Many women feel more comfortable learning new skills, traditionally only taught to men and boys, in a women-only setting. At Women Repair Zone™, we offer a safe and supportive environment where there is no such thing as a stupid question and making mistakes is celebrated as a way to learn. Mansplaining can’t get in the way, because there are no men!
Women Repair Zone™ recognizes that there are a lot of men who don’t have the skills we are teaching women. Since we started, we’ve had a lot of requests from men who want to learn these skills. Our goal is in the future to have workshops taught by men for men so that everyone has the skills they need to be independent and save money.
